Radical Reinvention
From dated starter home to dream sanctuary
The story
Driven by a desire for a new beginning our client sought to undertake a radical renovation of her dated property. With a maturing family and needing a fresh start, she wanted more space and more warmth. We refocused the finishes on a warmer palette, including lots of rich wood tones and a revised floor plan to create more useable space.
The approach
Our client was looking for a fresh take on the millennial grey and bling-y finishes in her current home. She tasked us with developing a contemporary, fresh design that felt more aligned with her current direction. Together we established a powerful, personal sanctuary built around her future goals. With a smart floor plan and fresh finishes we were able to make the space look and feel much larger with only a few tweaks and some new architectural details.
A reconfigured floor plan that moves the sink to the perimeter and also relocates the fridge and wall ovens. The result allows for one larger island with ample space to accommodate both food prep and post-school homework sessions
Durable, low-maintenance engineered quartz with warm grey and white veining was paired with contemporary thin-shaker oak millwork in a custom stain
Added a feature fireplace by building out the wall and using a cast surround. Moving the TV onto the adjacent wall ensures the room gains depth and remains welcoming for the kids to hang out nearby when prepping for meals
New beams in a custom stain were added to make the ceiling height feel more expansive and to bring character and warmth to the home
Key design considerations
While the floorspace did not change, the feeling in the home certainly did. What was once a cramped and dated space now has energy, enhanced flow and finishes as warm and engaging as the homeowner.
