Portfolio >> Casual Entertaining Space

Summer is just around the corner. We are certain our clients will have a great time hosting friends and family in their newly developed walkout, which we helped them finish as a stylish and casual entertaining space.

Entertaining space essentials

We worked to bring the home's contemporary styling into this unfinished area of the house. After assessing the raw space and the existing rough-ins we were able to determine the optimal locations for a media area, bar, guest room and bath as well as a play space with storage for the children. The new layout allows for several zones that flow together. Our clients now have a large area to cozy up in and watch movies together, or host a group for the game. The wet bar includes loads of storage and a full dishwasher in addition to pullouts for garbage and recycling. There is also a double wine-fridge and ice-maker worked into the cabinetry.Best of all, we were able to keep the connection between the entertaining and play space in the yard seamlessly connected to the indoor areas. We spent a lot of time considering the types of activities the client wanted to hold in this area of their home and managed to beautifully accommodate all the functions they wanted from the space -- including impromptu games of ping pong.Guests have a private area tucked in the back to rest and recharge away from the main entertaining areas of the walkout.

 Function, function, function

The materials for this project are all hard-wearing like the porcelain floor tiles and nylon broadloom. Spills will be no big deal to clean up.We kept the profile on the millwork simple and paired it with a neutral palette accented with pops of navy and grey.Leather furnishings feature prominently in the main areas of the walkout. Automated black-out window coverings quickly transform the bright, sunny space into a theatre room with a remote, or from an iPad.We also designed custom millwork pieces to house the electronics in the media area and create flexible storage for the children's toys. A finished look was achieved by adapt the millwork to disguise awkward bulkheads required for the existing services and structure in the home.
